This song is about my Mum who nearly jumped in the River Annan when she was a lonely little girl (sent to live with her aunt during the depression years) ... she felt nature around her and changed her mind - she was my first eco warrior
lyrics
Lena’s Song
I stood by the water
An’ I gazed in wonder
An’ it called me
Sang its sweet ringin’ music
On a cold hazy mornin’
So I stepped (in the water - solo voice) ooh
Walked on in ooh
Up to my middle
An’ I looked into the darkness ooh
An’ I stepped on secret stones shinin’ ooh
And the rushes they pulled me in
And they sah… to me
Of calamity …. ang
And how to be free
Free of all this … eeeh
Yes they sah …to me
Of their beauty … ang
And how to be free
Free of all this free
An’ above me the heavy sky opened ah ah
Chemical rain hit the water makin’ a show ah ah
Beautiful kaleidoscope sparkles ah- ah ah
In the waiting mornin’
An’ I gazed in wonder yeah
So I walked on in
Under the water
Just to be free free
Just to be free of all this free of all this
An I saw refuse in poisoned distended bird bellies
Oily black feathers starin’ eyes all dis-eased ooh
An’ polar bears swimmin’ for days in the ocean
On islands of ice that are too early broken ooh
Reaching the shoreline to die in the essence
There with the seals lookin’ on in the silence ooh
An’ children’s cries callin’ on phone lines vibrating
Tight ropes of tension hearts ready for breakin’ ooh
Echoing screams ‘bout Mummy’s new Daddy
An’ please can you help me not hurt in my body
I wanna be free of all this free
Let me be free of all this free of all this
I wanna be free free of all this
Let me be free of all this free
So I looked up one more time at the sky ooh
To the arrow of geese (mmmh yeah – solo voice) callin’ goodbye ooh
An’ I heard water’s laughter
An’ I heard the wind song chasin’ after
An’ I heard the faithful robin sing
An’ I heard the blackbird answer
An’ I heard the low clouds rumble
An’ I heard the water ooh
Callin’ me down
Just get closer ooh
Come on under ooh
Yeah
So I walked on in ooh
Into the water ooh
An’ I felt it cold, cold ooh
On my shoulders ooh
An’ I looked around ooh
An’ I saw duck feet paddle ooh
An’ I saw the fish swimmin’ by ooh
An’ I saw my hair tangled in the rushes ooh
An’ I saw my body Floatin’ down ooh
I saw my body (solo voice) floatin’ down ooh
Free of all this free of all this
Let me be free of all this free of all this
I was free of all this free of all this
I was free of all this free
An’ I saw the water
An’ I saw the water
An’ I heard distant birds singin’ in my mornin’
An’ the water rushin’ past my ears …
